Music Trivia with Ava

I don't really play Name That Tune with my children. But it's a good thing that I could. Because Ava (you may know her as A2) creates her own song titles and applies them to songs that already have titles.
The kids like to watch music videos. I have a playlist of ones they can watch. I have learned not only the song's title and artist, but also what they are wearing, what the lyrics say, and Ava's title for each of these songs.

Ava:  Mama, play the Street Song!
Me:   Which one is the Street Song?
Ava: (Hmph) YOU know! The Street Song.
Me:   Is it a boy or a girl singing?
Ava:  A girl.
Me:   Is it in English? (We do have some in other languages, thus the question)
Ava:  Yes ma'am.
Me:   Is it ___?
Ava: Noooooooo. The S-t-r-e-e-t Song, Mama. The one that Pink Dress Girl sings.
Me:  A-ha. Okay...this one?
Ava: Yeah!

So, can you Name That Tune?

The Pink Dress Girl? That would be Britt Nicole.

The Street Song? That would be "The Lost Get Found."

Christmas Creations: Nativity

My Wednesday night class has been working on making their very own nativity set this month. Because there was a lot of coloring, we split it up and only did a couple each week. They will take them home this week.

They are very easy to make, if you'd like to make one for your child to play with. The coloring sheets came from Catholic Icing, where you can download it for free.

Here's what a finished set looks like. I hope the kids like them!

Note: If I do these in the future, I will probably choose the option of printing the coloring pages on card stock and instead of putting them on toilet paper/paper towel rolls. It'd probably be easier and quicker!

Warm and Cozy

A few weeks ago, my precious friend and cousin Sabrina (over at Blossoming with Blessings) held a drawing for one of her crocheted creations.  I (and this was a fair and unbiased drawing!) won!

I asked for a scarf, with no idea of the time and talent it takes to make one. I picked it up yesterday, along with a couple of items I had ordered as Christmas gifts for my girls (which they are going to L-O-V-E! Pics of those later...).

As soon as I got back in the car, Ava was all "I want to see that. Can I have it?" (No ma'am, you can't.) But who can blame her, it's so pretty!

Want to see it??  (That's Abigail's poster in the background. I can't find a frame locally that fits it. Grr.)

And how does it look on?...Like this. I really hate being on this end of the camera - I prefer to take photos - but I wanted to show you how prettily (is that a word?) it fits.

Like I said, I really have no concept of the time and talent it takes to crochet, well, anything. So I don't know if you could receive an order by Christmas or not. BUT, head over to Blossoming with Blessings and check out her skillz. Then place an order. You won't regret it!

Storytime with Abigail

Abigail wrote her first book (it's about her teacher). She wanted to take it to school to show her teacher, so I took pictures of the pages so I could share them with ya'll. I remember when my oldest neice, Hannah, sent me a book she wrote in the mail...I loved it and still have it. So it's fun to see my child doing the same for someone.

Title: Miss Melanie's Accident
By: Abigail
Note: I hope you like it

"Miss Melanie fell on the concrete."

"Then she went to the hospital."

"Then she went home."

"She was happy. She and her friends had a sleepover."

"The end."

The good new is, that even though Miss Melaine fell on the concrete and had to go to the hospital...she was apparently not seriously injured and was able to come home and have a sleepover!

On Dolls and Scripture...

Ava's church class on Wednesday nights recently completed a series of lessons on Psalm 23. The class memorized the Psalm. It was really cute to see her recite - she had hand motions that she implemented, too.

A week or so ago, I was looking in on the girls while they were playing dolls...Ava's doll was telling Abigail's doll that she had "walked through the valley of the shadow of deaf." (deaf = death, in Ava-speak) Later she told us that Gigi (a doll) had been sitting at the table "in the presents of her emenies" (presence of her enemies).

Haha! But, I'm so glad that she was thinking about the Scripture she's learned.

Corn Maze

We have been going to a corn maze for several years now. Each year, I try to take a similar photo, so that we can see the progression through the years.

What you can also see, is MY regression.

From the first two years: needing the "perfect" shot (lighting, angles, and such)

To the last couple of years: just hoping to get them all in the frame and getting one halfway decent shot.

I don't even take my DSLR anymore (hanging head in shame). I take the pocket-friendly point-n-shoot because it's lighter, and stored easily if/when I have to chase a kid*. ;)

Despite the inadequate frame-worthiness of the last two years, I have the photo. See the progression below. They grow so fast:

*Notice the 2012 shot. Ava is racing ahead of us. This is an accurate portrayal of her personality. Full speed ahead.

Blog Mini-Makeover

I've updated the family photos --->

They were only about two years old...

Kids don't change much in that time period, do they? Let's see...

Abigail (the glasses are fakes, btw):

Ava:

So of course there's the If You Give A Mouse A Cookie effect...I had to change the grown-ups, too.

Barry:

Sarah:

And since I changed those, I couldn't just leave my header avatars. Could I? No. I mean, "I" was holding a newborn! Ava is quick to tell you she is NOT a baby. Yes, I realize these don't really look like us. But the beauty of avatars is I can make myself skinny with an awesome S-line relatively easily. LOL.
